Sileather, a leading manufacturer of silicone coated fabrics, will exhibit its latest silicone composite textiles at the Industrial Fabrics Association International (IFAI) Expo in New Orleans, LA from September 26-29, 2017 at booth A741.

According to the company, silicone coated fabrics have gained traction in the marketplace as a more environmentally friendly and sustainable alternative to traditional coated fabrics like polyvinylchloride (PVC) and polyurethane (PU), while offering long lasting durability and high performance features.

Certified with the Indoor Advantage Gold certification, Sileather’s silicone fabrics have ultra-low VOC emissions which allow them to qualify for LEED v4 credits when specified. They are  medical grade skin friendly and naturally flame resistant, mildew resistant, weatherproof and stain resistant. Applications include upholstery for healthcare, commercial, automotive, marine, outdoor, sports and apparel.

Sileather is owned by international silicone coating technology company, Siotech Corporation, that has offices worldwide and its own silicone plant and manufacturing operations. With strong research and development operations, Siotech Corporation will also showcase other silicone coated products including waterproof and breathable mesh, silicone coated fiberglass, and other industrial composite textiles at the IFAI Expo.

“Silicone leather is a new type of future fabric made of 100% silicone. With the unique advantages of silicone, we offer the world a better solution of healthier, sustainable, easy to clean, weatherproof, and highly durable, inherently flame resistant performance fabrics that can be applied in various applications,” says Sileather’s Matthew L. Smith.

“Our silicone leather fabrics are designed to meet the needs of different industries, including the complete vertical contract market: hospitality, healthcare, public seating, stadiums, education, etc. The versatility of silicone leather gives it a unique advantage over other fabrics because the qualities of silicone carry through every fabric collection.”

Carrying the company’s philosophy of ‘everything essential, nothing extra,’ silicone leather is said to provide the most stringent standards without adding any chemical additives such as flame retardants, biocides, plasticizers, and stabilizers.

For hospitality applications, silicone leather is especially user-friendly, the company says. “It is inherently allergen free, skin friendly, odourless, stain resistant, and easy to clean. Most common stains can be easily removed with water. The exceptional haptic touch provides ultimate comfort while maintaining its colour and outlook for ten years. Silicone leather can be used in both indoor and outdoor applications, as it is inherently UV resistant, water resistant, hydrolysis resistant, high and low temperature resistant, mildew and salt water resistant. Restaurants, hotels, and other recreational facilities at any corner of the globe can use silicone leather to satisfy their individual environment needs,” Matthew L. Smith adds.

“As the field of upholstery textiles advances towards the age of future fabrics, our silicone leather will help lead the industry towards more sustainable and environmentally friendly path. From raw material, production process, to finished products, silicone leather helps reduce energy and waste of the environment, while leaving no toxic by-products, harsh chemicals or VOC emissions even at the end of its life.”

Sileather’s mission is to provide an upholstery fabric that is not only high performance, but is environmentally friendly and sustainable, as this is what the world of future fabrics is demanding, according to the company. “Our silicone leather fabrics are highly durable and resistant to many adverse conditions, and more importantly, are able to do so without the addition of harsh chemicals that many traditional fabrics need,” Matthew L. Smith concludes.

With Sileather’s customization options, it can create a wide variety of solid colours along with multi-coloured designs, as well as digital printing. Silk screening is also available so that logos and designs can be printed onto the fabric itself. The company’s children's collections of silicone leather fabrics have colourful and charming images of cartoon characters that add that special touch.
